Affiliate networks are technology brokers. They enable the distribution of coupons and deals, among other things, between a retailer or manufacturer and a publisher (website, blog, etc). ad a layer of efficiency to the couponing industry. Publishers promote banner ads and links belonging to the retailer or manufacturer. If a consumer clicks on those links, and continues to make a purchase on the retail site, then that click is registered as being due to the promotion from the Publisher and they are granted commissions of some kind for that promotion.
