One way of competing in this crowded Daily Deal market is to focus on a niche industry. Deals for kids, for pets, for Spas only, Deals for travel, etc. Focusing on a niche gives you the upper hand to engage your market better, know your market better and deliver value far superior than a generic Daily Deal service.
One of the most popular categories in the Daily Deals space is Restaurants. Although there are a few Restaurant specific Daily Deal sites in the USA (Opentable, Savoured, Restaurants.com, Blackboardeats, etc) there are very few in Canada. The first major site to launch in Canada was Dealicious.ca in 2010. Owned by the folks from Toronto’s Restaurant directory site Dine.to. Dealicious, however, has now grown to become a generic daily deal site; offering more than just restaurant or food deals. There is also Foodscrooge, focusing more on grocery items. No others that are substantial come to mind.
Now comes the launch of Canada’s largest and most visited Restaurant directory; RestoMontreal. They report having over 4.5 million visitors over the past year and list over 4000 restaurants in their Montreal Restaurant directory. This makes them the largest in Canada.
They will be launching their Daily Deal service on Monday July 25th. Their new Daily Deal service is called RestoBoom.
We spoke with Anthony Mustillo, co-founder and President of both RestoMontreal and RestoBoom. They are launching in Montreal, in both French and English and the plan is to eventually expand to other cities across Canada and in the US. They are the only Restaurant Daily Deal site available in French in Canada, thus serving Quebec’s 8 million population. Most of whom are French speaking.
Further information on their launch can be found in this Press Release.
